Here in France they call the Monkfish a 'Lotte'. I think that means it got hit with the ugly stick a helluva lotte. I also quite like fish expert Alan Davidson's description. He tosses this beast into a section called "Miscellaneous uncouth fish" in his North Atlantic Seafood book. Whatever you think of his menancing toothy grin, he tastes pretty good. I got up close and offended by this guy at Les Halles market in Narbonne.
